She tried it At least The feeling deceased You never want to see me again On not much sleep And too much sad To pull me from the garbage can I know I missed it I am hardly here I want to kiss it And make it reappear Linger like the last one gone I knew you were there all along I held my breath Against my chest You’re hanging like a charm Strong and tall I watched it all Fall and float away I’m made of fear, I’ll make it clear Can’t live another day without you What would I say Desire Wade another night

I think he understood the way that it was But now my mother that was different Not too often we’d walk to town together, not too often I remember going to a movie I was twelve years old People really staring at us hard I remember it was The Imitation of Life, do you remember that movie? People really staring at us hard I remember it was The Imitation of Life, I still think about that movie. I don’t know if she knew what she was doing I think I was a bit racist then Because it started when I was twelve I wanted to know about Black people I wanted to read about them I’d go to the library and say “Why don’t you have any books here for Black people?” “Malcolm X, why don’t you have Malcolm X?” I wanted to know about Black people. It started when I was twelve. I’d go to the library and say “Why don’t you have any books here for Black people?” “Malcolm X, why don’t you have Malcolm X?” I wanted to know about Black people. It started when I was twelve. Why don’t you have any books here for Black people?

Vos asperares a los siete, si no, a los ocho vos cazax [English Translation] Why do you cry, innocent girl? Why do you cry, innocent flower? I weep for you, sir You've going away, and leaving me behind. You leave me [behind as] a child and maiden A girl and of young age I have little children, They weep and demand for bread If they ask for their father, What answer should I give them? [He] put a hand in his breast [pocket] [And] gave them one hundred doubloons Is this enough for Wine or for bread? If this is not enough, You have somewhere else to take more: You'll sell vineyards and fields Half of the city You'll sell vineyards and fields And half of the sea You'll wait for us for seven [years/months] If not, at eight you marry

At night I look on my iPhone I look at boys at men I don't know I've met a few who you might have known I've walked late at night looking for them You say that I'm vivacious You say that I'm gorgeous But you still maintain that I'll only be a part of your rotation Rotation I'll never be OK with you having a penis I'll never be OK with you and that whole front part of your body I'll never be OK with you having a penis I'll never be OK with you having a penis To that I really just have a few things to say What part of fucking me in the ass didn't make you gay What am I supposed to do? How can I ever please you? What am I supposed to do? You've got some issues dude What am I supposed to do? I guess that we are through What am I supposed to do? I guess that we are through Love me Love the front of me If you love me You love what's between my legs

It's got to be in you Will I be? He saw God when he died I'll be the one who wants to see the light And I'll be the one who wants to wait at the door I'll wait at the door Be the one who wants to lead with an open mind He saw God and he saw light and I'll lead with an open mind It's got to be in you Will I be? Be the one who wants to see the light and I know how that goes for me Who used the bottle? I used to bottle I want to be discarded like you I'll be the one who wants to see the light

Oh dear avoider Take pause and breath Find where confusion Give it kiss Put it into the earth Give it up to her Give it up to her Teach me your language Erase mine from inside Unwinding on my bones is the angel still She is stoked for the kill Of the code for the kill of the code for the kill I'm this body here Also not this body here Even as you're leaving You're always coming Lookin back only once to see That which stolen from me The hand that you grab Pulls the flesh at the seam The angel inside she was me Yes she was me And I can see even he ugh I'm this body here Also not this body here Even as you're leaving You're always coming Comin comin comin comin

She can see with her eye She can see with her mind And with her body She can see It's a gift She sees And as she walks down a familiar road The cloud of self doubt passes over her Questioning every cell, every impulse She feels (I feel) She sees (I see) Is this truly what I see? Is this truly what I see? Is this me? Who am I? Who am I supposed to be? Who am I supposed to see? When I wake When I dream I She can see She can see

I would rather watch my life My life from a distance You were never on my mind Til I tried to resist it I would rather spend my time My time in a garden Picking every cherry that I see And tying the stems with memories You'll never be the one Who I try to build a life with You'll never be the one Who I try to share my life with Who I try to twist the knife in I would rather spend my time My time in a garden Picking every cherry that I see And tying the stems with memories I just wanna feel the feelings The feelings are fleeting You'll never be the one Who I try to build a life with You'll never be the one Who I try to share my life with Who I try to twist the knife in

about

“Stories” brings together 12 emerging Los Angeles-based queer, experimental and BIPOC artists in a compilation of new and original music about the stories we tell and the story we tell when we tell them together.

In the winter of 2022, we asked friends in our community to share a story with a song. The music we received was remarkable in their kindredness and diversity while coalescing into a coherent sparkling compilation. These stories of love, heartbreak, grief, and identity gather to invite introspection and exploration.

From synthcore screamo pop to ancient Judeo-Spanish folk ballad to shoegaze noise pop, “Stories” tells a story about the beautiful possibilities when we create unexpected connections across experimental genres and marginalized voices.
